Ram Charan aka Cherry is debuting into Hindi filmdom with the sequel of Amitabh Bachchan’s erstwhile blockbuster ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) which showcased Amitabh as ‘angry young man’. Charan will now reprise B-town ‘megatsar’ in its remake and it was even confirmed by Chiranjeevi and Charan during the audio launch of ‘Rachcha’ recently.
The movie, jointly produced by Amit Mehra (son of Prakash Mehra who earlier directed and produced the original ‘Zanjeer’), Reliance Entertainment and Eros, will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia of ‘Ek Ajnabee’ fame. The filmmakers are in plans to start the movie in the middle of April.
Now the latest buzz is that, sultry siren Priyanka Chopra is being considered to play the female lead role opposite Charan. Earlier hottie Deepika Padukone was considered to play the same role. But, we hear, she opted out of project citing date issues. Also the talk doing rounds that filmmakers are ready to pay a whopping amount of `11 Crore for ‘Agneepath’ star.
Highly placed sources close to the director told Hans Talkies over telephone, “Filmmakers are in talks with Priyanka. But nothing is finalised as of now. we are eagerly awaiting for the official confirmation of Reliance Entertainment. The process may take another seven days.
According to the sources, the movie will have some important changes in the script. Chiran Bhatt (cousin of Vikram Bhatt) will compose the music for ‘Zanjeer 2’. The movie said to be a bilingual which will be made in Hindi and Telugu with a whopping budget of `70 crore. If everything goes on to pace, Ram Charan will look as ‘angry young man’ and Priyanka will reprise the role of Jaya Bachchan.
